In Australia, if you have a student visa, you may work for up to 20 hours per week while studying and 40 hours per week over semester breaks. There is no limit to the number of hours you may work if you have a Working Holiday visa. Getting a job is a good way to meet people and improve language skills. Working casually is common among Gold Coast students.
