This unit deals with the interpersonal, communication and customer service skills required by all people working in the tourism and hospitality industries. This is a core unit which underpins all other competencies dealing with colleagues and customers and applies to all levels and sectors of the industry.

This unit deals with the cultural awareness that is required by all people working in the tourism and hospitality industries. It includes the cultural awareness required for serving customers and working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively on the telephone. It is an essential skill for large numbers of people working in all sectors of the tourism and hospitality industries

Developing and update hospitality industry knowledge
This unit deals with the interpersonal, communication and customer service skills required by all people working in the tourism and hospitality industries. Following health, safety and security procedures
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to follow health, safety and security procedures. This unit applies to all individuals working in the tourism and hospitality industries. It does not cover hygiene which is found in the unit THHGHS01B Follow workplace hygiene procedures.
THHCOR03B
Follow workplace hygiene procedures
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to follow key hygiene procedures which apply in hospitality and tourism enterprises. It is particularly relevant to staff working in kitchens, housekeeping, food and beverage and tour operations involving the preparation of food. This unit addresses the key requirements of the National Food Safety Guideline Standard GFSBFSPA Follow basic food safety practices.

Operate a Bar
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to carry out bar operations in a range of hospitality enterprises. It reflects the role of a bar attendant. The Unit THHGFA01B Process financial transactions covers the pre-requisite cash-handling skills required for this unit.

Clean and Tidy bar areas
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to provide general assistance in a bar area. It reflects the role of a 'bar useful' or may be part of the role of a bar attendant.

Provide responsible service of alcohol
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to satisfy the requirements for responsible service of alcohol under State/Territory legislation. All persons undertaking training as part of a National Certificate in the service of alcohol must complete this unit. All elements are undertaken in accordance with legal provisions of the relevant liquor legislation. Evidence of competence must include demonstrated knowledge of legislation as detailed throughout the unit and in the Evidence Guide. It must also include knowledge of the underpinning reasons for and benefits of responsible service of alcohol reforms.

Provide responsible gaming services
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to satisfy the relevant State/Territory legislative requirements and codes of practice to provide responsible gambling services and to provide information and assistance to customers. In some States and Territories this is referred to as responsible conduct of gambling (RCG). This unit is appropriate for all staff working in a gambling environment.

DELIVERY & ASSESSMENT METHODS

  • Lectures are the principal means by which course material is delivered. Most classes are conducted in an interactive fashion. Students are expected to ask questions and actively contribute to class discussions. A student needs to be an active member of the class rather than a passive member. Students are required to comply with college policy on attendance and academic performance.
  • Students are notified at the start of each module of the content , assessment methods , time frames & outcomes

 

COURSE OUTCOME

  • On successful completion of the Certificate II in Hospitality (Operations) the student will be awarded a nationally recognised Certificate by Mackintosh International College (Australia).
