This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare clients for a range of salon services. This unit of competency may apply to a range of roles in the workplace.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to care for and maintain workplace hairdressing tools and equipment.
WRHCS202A
Maintain and organise work areas
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain and organise work areas in service environments.
WRHCS204A
Follow personal health and safety
This unit describes the self-care skills and knowledge involved in developing and integrating personal health and safety measures as part of routine work practices in a hairdressing salon environment.
WRHCS205A
Perform head and neck and shoulder massage
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a head, neck and shoulder massage as an enhancement prior to the salon shampoo service.
WRHCS206A
Apply safe working practices
This unit incorporates the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC) guidelines for occupational health and safety. It encompasses the skills, knowledge and attitudes to maintain a safe work environment for staff, customers and others. It involves observing basic safety and emergency procedures.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply temporary colour products and remove residual product under the direction of a senior operator. This unit of competency will apply to a range of hairdressing services and roles in the workplace.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to access information on the hairdressing industry and relevant industry legislation. The unit may apply to a range of roles in the workplace.

Communicate in the workplace
This unit encompasses the skills, knowledge and attitudes required for effective communication with customers and other staff in the workplace. It involves establishing contact with customers, processing information, working in a team, maintaining personal presentation, following routine instructions, reading and interpreting retail documents and using numbers in the workplace.

This unit encompasses the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to work effectively in a retail environment. It involves acting responsibly and in a non-discriminatory manner, and identifying the relevant award/agreement

Rinse and neutralise chemically curled or volumised hair
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply the rinsing and neutralising process to chemically curled or volumised hair under the direction of a senior operator. This unit of competency will apply to a range of chemical reformation services and roles in the workplace.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist colleagues who are involved in the provision of multiple services in a hairdressing services environment.

DELIVERY & ASSESSMENT METHODS

    • Mixed mode delivery is the principal means by which course material is delivered. Consisting of Observation demonstration theoretical studies & practical participation. With the opportunity to obtain experience in an industry salon.
    • Most classes are conducted in an interactive fashion. Students are expected to ask questions and actively contribute to class discussions and be involved in the practical aspects . A student needs to be an active member of the class rather than a passive member. Students are required to comply with college policy on attendance and academic performance.
    • At the start of each module students are notified of the content, assessment methods, time frames and targeted outcomes.

 

COURSE OUTCOME

  • On successful completion of the Certificate II in Hairdressing the student will be awarded a nationally recognised certificate by Mackintosh International College (Australia).
