English Academic Pathway Courses Students interested in pursuing an academic pathway of English, Certificate and Diploma courses can now enter Mackintosh College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) package programs. By enrolling into one of our certificate or diploma program courses for a minimum of 10 weeks, students are entitled to receive our new EAP (or General English) package from just $231.00 per week.

General English is offered at several levels from Elementary through to Intermediate and on to Advanced. Each full level of study is 10 weeks in length but you may study as many weeks as you want. 2 weeks is the minimum period of study. You will be tested on your first day and placed in the level most suitable for your language needs. You will be given practice in all four skills - Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. During the course, your work will be observed and you will occasionally have tests to measure your academic progress.

When you successfully finish one of the class levels you will be awarded a "Statement of Satisfactory Completion," from Mackintosh International College (Australia). If you are unsuccessful you will be expected to repeat that block of study if you are undertaking further English Language study. Students studying for a period shorter than a full course will receive a "Statement of Participation" from Mackintosh International College (Australia) when they finish, indicating their dates of study.

This 10 week specialist course is designed to prepare students for study in formal academic courses. Through its skill development focus the course practices the types of tasks required by Vocational Certificates and Diplomas and Undergraduate University study.

Students seeking an academic pathway will require 10 weeks duration for the EAP1 program with an IELTS score of 5.0 prior to entry at Central Queensland University (CQU).

Students wishing to enter this course will have studied General English at Mackintosh International College English and satisfactorily completed level 4 or will have an equivalent level of English Language proficiency. Although this course is available as an option to students who do not have tertiary study as a goal, considerable motivation is required to successfully handle the high assessment workload.

This course will also be open to students who have been accepted onto MICA Courses but require further preparation in the skills necessary for academic study.

The course welcomes students who have obtained tertiary places in other institutions or are planning to make an application. However, these students must achieve the required level in the IELTS test in order to articulate into their chosen course of study. Direct entry provisions for courses at institutions other than MICA are not automatic.
